We delve into the life and career of an exceptional individual who has dedicated his life to serving the elderly and ensuring their well-being. Brodey Hanson, Executive Director, has an unwavering commitment and a compassionate nature which has touched the lives of countless residents, staff and their families.

Brodey grew up in a small town in Illinois and started his career in healthcare by volunteering for the local fire department as a fire fighter and emergency medical technician.  Growing up, Brodey witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by older adults, which ignited a passion to bring about change in the field of elderly care.

Driven by this ambition, Brodey pursued an associated degree from Clinton Community College then later finishing his bachelor’s and master’s degree at Ashford University. This education equipped him with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the complex healthcare landscape. Brodey demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities and a natural inclination towards caregiving, which set the stage for his future endeavors.

Upon completing his education, Brodey embarked on a career in healthcare administration working for Mercy Medical Center in radiology and Medicare billing. Brodey later accepted a position with Mercy Medical Center underneath Trinity Senior Living Communities as the Finance Director of over 200-beds, specifically focusing on geriatric care.  Brodey began his journey as a business office manager and later finishing his ‘Administrator in Training’ program in a reputable nursing home, Mercy Living Center- North,  quickly proving his worth through his dedication, innovative thinking, and ability to connect with residents on a personal level.

Brodey eventually accepted a position in Norwalk, IA and inherited a Special Focus Facility. Brodey lead his team to clear special focus in 9 months, remove all agency staff and financially reset the business into a positive bottom line. Brodey took charge of managing the facility's operations, overseeing staff, and ensuring the highest standards of care were maintained for every resident. His commitment to excellence and unwavering advocacy for the elderly earned them the respect and admiration of both staff members and residents alike.

Brodey firmly believes in person-centered care, recognizing that each resident has unique needs, preferences, and histories. He has implemented innovative programs and initiatives that promote individuality, encourage social engagement, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.

Brodey’s dedication extends beyond the physical well-being of residents; he actively fosters an environment that promotes emotional support, mental stimulation, and a sense of belonging. By creating a warm and nurturing atmosphere, our protagonist has transformed their nursing home into a true home away from home.

Throughout his career, Brodey has positively impacted the lives of countless individuals and their families. His unwavering commitment to the elderly, coupled with his ability to inspire and lead, has resulted in a thriving community that is recognized as a model of excellence in the field of geriatric care.

Brodey’s legacy is one of compassion, empathy, and a tireless pursuit of enhancing the lives of those he serves. His dedication has not only improved the quality of care within their own facility but has also influenced the broader healthcare community, inspiring others to adopt a more person-centered approach.

During the years Brodey has overseen The Bridges at Ankeny, we have earned the Governor’s Award for Quality of Care, CMS rated Top Iowa Facility, U.S. News & Reports Best Skilled and Long-Term Care facility, Reader’s Choice for Top Senior Living Community and countless other awards. Brodey personally was recognized as a Des Moines Business Record Forty under 40 recipient and earned the American Health Care Association’s Top Leader Award in 2023.
